This is the very interesting life story of Cor Longiotti, the son of Italian immigrants to America during the first couple of decades of the 20th century. After growing up through the great depression, early in 1943 Cor found himself voluntarily drafted into the U.S Army, as part of the 179th Infantry, 45th Division.
It was while with the U.S Army he found himself returning to the homeland of his parents, to fight in some of the most ferocious battles of WW2, before being captured in "Operation Fischfang" the German offensive, in February 1944, so much for "Soft Underbelly of Europe".
After surviving these battles, and the horrendous conditions of a Nazi POW camp, Cor returned to America to get married and start a family, making a success of himself after some ups and downs, through working hard and having a good outlook on life.
I know Cor had a lot of soul searching recounting some of his memories for this book, things that he couldn't talk about for years, but I for one am glad he did write it, not just for future generations, but as something for his family, well done Cor.
